Well I actually did it. I finished my first 5K. Now let me say that before the race I was already getting to where I really wanted to run every day. Now I am so addicted to it I am signing up for my next 5K today and the race is in 2 weeks. then 2 weeks after that I have a 10K that I am going to participate in. Over all I think I did pretty good for my first 5K. 29min 45secs and I placed 91st out of like 215ish people. Most importantly I had a blast. For anybody out there that has done this for some time now does the prerace jitters every stop? I ran this same course on Thursday last week and my time was a little better but seeing all the “professional” runners out there it was a little intimidating. I have a new goal for this year and this is to get my 5K time down to 20ish min. I know that sounds a little optimistic but I really think that if I get some of my excess weight off then I should be able to train to achieve this goal. Also I am going to run the half marathon in Sept. That race I just want to complete and I will be happy.

Well at lunch today I decided to run the course for my 5K coming up this Sunday. All I got to say about that is WOW!!!!! running on the track for so many months made my shins very tender so I don’t think that I will run tonight like I was planning or tomorrow and for that matter Saturday. Ill probably just wait till I run my 5K. Any one with suggestions on how to keep my shinsplints in check as well as if I am doing the right thing by not running till the actual 5K please let me know. All feedback is very welcome.

So after 2 days with the plague which sent me to a world in which I hope no one ever has to go to I decided to fight back so I ran. Not only did I run I ran 5 miles. I haven’t been able to run since last week Thursday since my dad came into town and the whole easter thing. It felt really good for about the first 4 miles then I started to get my butt kicked by this plague. So I decided to kick it into overdrive and finish my last mile. Overall I finished and I feel pretty good about it.

Well I went ahead after my 3 mile lunch time run and went back to the gym and completed what I set out to do and that is run at least 7 miles yesterday. I actually felt really good. I thought since I ran at lunch that I would be exhausted after work but I really wasn’t. Hit my 4 mile run like it was no big deal. So now I know that I can do it the only thing now is keeping my excitment up so I do continue to do it.

I ate 3 donut’s today in a moment of weakness so I decided that besides my after work 5 mile run I would run at lunch time 1 mile for each donut. So I went to the gym and ran 3 miles at lunch. Which by the way after eating 3 donuts and then going to the gym really makes you hurt like heck in the belly region. That will teach me!

I am really starting to feel my addiction to running coming back. I love it. 5 Miles today. 1 on the treadmill (which left my knees hurting really bad) so I ran the other 4 on the track. After everything was said and done I felt great.

So I am in a constant battle with food. Why is it that healthy food usually has to taste like crap? I have gotten myself back on the wagon of eating healthier again but would love to be able to eat a nice fat burger and fries with out feeling like I need to go run 8 miles after eating it. OH well I guess I will one day truly have to embrace the lifestyle of a healthy person. I think it may be in part to all the years that I did eat unhealthy and my body is just in the habit of eating that way (plus it knows how good it is).
