2nd 5K in the bag

Well I did it I finished my second 5K. I would love to say that it was easy but over half of it was into a very strong blistering cold wind and it was not a gentle wind either. Plus this is my first time running a race to where half/most of the race was uphill too. I would like to think that I did pretty good since both of those conditions I have never trained for and I still dropped about a min off my total time. Now for the next few weeks I get to train for my 10K coming up on the 26th of April. That one also has a couple of nice hills in there but I now know that I need to work on my hill strength. Thanks to everyone for all the words of encouragement.

New Shoes

So I went over to Fleet Feet yesterday at lunch at talked to one of the professionals there. I will have to be honest with you that I thought (before going in) that it was an overpriced shoe store. Boy was I wrong. Not only was this guy really cool but he is one of the people that I was intimidated by on my first 5K run. He took the time to check out my feet and ask the right questions to find the right shoe for me. When he brought out the shoes I thought he probably grabbed the most expensive pair (being negative again) but after he informed me about the differences in the type of socks I wear and how my foot hits in my shoe (cause they let you run real quick outside to make sure they have a good pair of shoes for you) and what shoe insert to wear to help out with my shin splints he informed me that my shoes were not the most expensive pair there. That made me really happy it meant that I was able to spend money on other things. So long story short he could not have been more on the money with his thought process. I grabbed my shoes and new socks and decided that since I have all this new really cool stuff that I was gonna go on an 8 Mile run (longest I have ever ran) New stuff makes you feel really optimistic. I was really worried about my shin splints cause they have been hurting lately but like I said earlier this sales guy was on the mark with the stuff that he recommended. I not only completed my 8 miles in 1 hr 13 min but I also did it with out any shin splint pain. I don’t know about you but I would pay a lot of money to be able to get rid of shin splints. I can sit through a 4 hr session of getting tattooed but shin splints is one of those things that makes me want to just sit there like a bump on a log and being 255 lbs that is the last thing I need to do. I did want to say that while I was at Fleet Feet I told him about Sweat 365 and he said that he would come out to the site. I hope he does cause when he gets here and sees all the great people out here I hope he tells all his customers about this site.

Lunch time

Man I tell you what those Lunch time runs make you feel so good for the second half of your day. I love them. Did the 5K course again and dropped my time a little. I still have another couple of 5K’s this year to run one being this Saturday so I want to get down below 25 min total time for my 5K’s.

3 Mile lunch run.

Well after my last post I decided that I would go run today since I haven’t been able too find time to run over the last couple of days.  I am trying to cut my 5K time down and one of my friends said to do “ladders” (or at least that is what we called them).  Ladders ,to us, is where you run at a little bit faster pace then normal for 1 to 2 miles and then you go to your pace for 1 to 2 miles and so on and so forth.  Well I figured out that after you push yourself for a little bit longer then 2 miles and you come to your slow down point you really don’t want to.  Then I looked at the clock and realized that if I kept up my pace I could actually end up with a really good 3 mile time.  SO I just kept it up and low and behold ended up getting a 24 min 3 mile run in.  By the way that is the fastest that I have ever ran 3 miles in.  So needless to say I am really happy right now.  I just need to not get freaked out by all the people at the next 5K that I am doing and I believe that I may drop about 2 to 3 min off my time.  That is what my goal is to drop my 5K time down by at least 2 min on my next run.  Well see.

Just complaining!

I’ll tell you what for a guy I sure do like to complain about my weight.  I am running a lot each week (like in the teens to twenties miles per week) and I am still having issue with my weight.  I am not eating 100% like I should but I am eating really well compared to how I did over the last 6 months.  I can’t even tell you why I care so much about what the scale says I just know that what my body looks like compared to my weight on the scale they are really different.  Oh well I guess I just need to suck it up and go run some more.

Completed my first 5K

Well I actually did it. I finished my first 5K. Now let me say that before the race I was already getting to where I really wanted to run every day. Now I am so addicted to it I am signing up for my next 5K today and the race is in 2 weeks. then 2 weeks after that I have a 10K that I am going to participate in. Over all I think I did pretty good for my first 5K. 29min 45secs and I placed 91st out of like 215ish people. Most importantly I had a blast. For anybody out there that has done this for some time now does the prerace jitters every stop? I ran this same course on Thursday last week and my time was a little better but seeing all the “professional” runners out there it was a little intimidating. I have a new goal for this year and this is to get my 5K time down to 20ish min. I know that sounds a little optimistic but I really think that if I get some of my excess weight off then I should be able to train to achieve this goal. Also I am going to run the half marathon in Sept. That race I just want to complete and I will be happy.

Test run

Well at lunch today I decided to run the course for my 5K coming up this Sunday. All I got to say about that is WOW!!!!! running on the track for so many months made my shins very tender so I don’t think that I will run tonight like I was planning or tomorrow and for that matter Saturday. Ill probably just wait till I run my 5K. Any one with suggestions on how to keep my shinsplints in check as well as if I am doing the right thing by not running till the actual 5K please let me know. All feedback is very welcome.

The plague!!!!

So after 2 days with the plague which sent me to a world in which I hope no one ever has to go to I decided to fight back so I ran.  Not only did I run I ran 5 miles.  I haven’t been able to run since last week Thursday since my dad came into town and the whole easter thing.  It felt really good for about the first 4 miles then I started to get my butt kicked by this plague.  So I decided to kick it into overdrive and finish my last mile.  Overall I finished and I feel pretty good about it.
